Artist Statement

In my work, I am interested in energy. I have always been interested in energy and how it manifests and the effect it has on people. This passion brought me to the field of energetic medicine and acupuncture. where I use sound, light, touch/pressure, smell (essential oils). In my art, I bring my life-experience and understanding of energetics to visual form.

My art begins almost exclusively with a photo. It is my way of engaging with the world and a way to capture light just as a painter would set up a palette before he paints. After this, I review a number of images and decide which would be good for an abstract piece and which would be good for a realistic collage-type piece. I love to work on both levels as they address different aspects of my aesthetic: 1. abstract imagery with the play and interaction of light as color and shape, 2. objective imagery, which, when brought into a new context takes on a new kind of life that addresses human consciousness in a symbolic fashion.

Some objective images move me to create accompanying poems. These are pictures that include people in them. I don’t feel that these pieces need the accompanying words but the inclusion of words brings a fuller communication to an audience who may be more literally inclined.

For over nineteen years I have worked in the digital medium even before the advent of Photoshop. Twenty years ago I saw the first high-end digital graphics system on a Sony High Definition monitor. I was astounded by the color and clarity, the likes of which one could never see in print or even paint for that matter.

I love light and color. Light is the most universal form of energy. Light is my medium- what I paint and make images with. I feel fortunate to live in a time where this is possible and to be able to record this light as digital data. With this digital data many things are possible. Not only does it open up creative possibilities for the artist but it also allows great flexibility in how one can view this visual data for the art buyer.

Much of my life has been dedicated to service. For six years I worked in a digital access center creating images with clients from the advertising industry. Three more years were spent working with photographers and for the past eight years I have worked in the healing arts helping people to return to wellness. All of these experiences have one thing in common. That is, working with clients within parameters they have presented.

To this end, I offer art buyers the ability to customize how they would like my artwork output. Options are: what surface the image is printed on (paper, photo paper, canvas, aluminum [for outdoors]), the size of the piece, how it might be cropped to fit a particular size ratio and possibly color changes to suit the environment it is in.

Custom or commission work is also available to get your idea out of your head and onto a wall.
